COPRA® Professional Tube Mill Roll Design Center is tailored to the needs of making round or rectangular tubes or pipes. Common types of tube welding lines and respective types of forming and calibration passes are already stored in COPRA's data base and can easily be extended, copied or modified according to your own needs. 
The calculation of the roll forming steps is done according to predefined strategies and can be adapted to your requirements.
COPRA's design functions are fully parametric. User friendly dialogue boxes are allowing an easy access to the most effective functionality.

The flower setup can be done in a very flexible way. One section may consist of as much as 8 different arcs. For every individual arc angle, radius and arc length can be defined separately. 
For the fin passes it is also possible to define the fin- width dependent on the tube diameter.
Number of respective arcs can be defined in dialoque boxes user friendly and easy setup of bending angles Material additions such as profiling-, sizing-, welding- and strip guide additions can be entered depending on the tube diameters.
The design of the rolls can also be done diameter-dependent. This guarantees highest flexibility for the setup of fillet radii and chamfers.

COPRA Tube Mill Roll Design center - minimized strain values calculation

COPRA also includes a software program for the calculation of the optimum down-hill forming curve.
It has been shown that the widespread opinion that a constant gravity point was the optimum forming method is wrong.
A special purpose optimization program provides the possibility to minimize material strain. With this option the optimum forming curves for the individual passes (including cage forming) can be determined.

Calibrating to shaped tubes is usually (but not necessarily) starting from a round tube.
The individual calibrating steps are calculated and optimized on the computer as a basis for the following roll design.

The noise generated by the calibration passes was reduced drastically due to the smother forming process achieved by COPRA design.
Both, calibrating to shaped tubes as well as drawing a tube through a drawing ring, is starting from a round tube.

Left picture shows an example how the different calibrating passes of a tube mill can be generated by a computer program. The individual calibrating steps are calculated and optimized on the computer as a basis for the following roll design. The photograph on the picture below also shows the corresponding practical example.

How does COPRA Professional Design Module for Shaped Tubes work?
The design of the profile's cross section which has to be produced is easily done via CAD functions or COPRA's tailored functionality.
In order to perform the (not trivial) calculation from the final cross section back to the cross section the user wants to start from (usually the round one) it may be chosen between two mathematical statements:
Calculation of respective angle values or the so-called topographical method. The drawing left shows an example of the "angle-method".
A correct distribution of compression values allows the user to avoid "undercuts" which might lead otherwise to difficulties during the production.
Compression in single forming passes may can also be set to a resulting total profile compression value (over the whole calibration from round to special shape).

In case of uniform forming, the arc angles of the shaping steps are exactly within the angles of the respective entities in the two adjacent passes. Distribution of angle modification can be set in percent.
The user has access to a number of optimization settings - concerning iteration, gap widths, angle adjustments and computing time.

Software requirements

What are the requirements for a succesful operation of COPRA ?
COPRA is available for  Windows operating systems and requires AutoCAD or Mechanical Desktop (both registered trademarks of Autodesk). AutoCAD or. Mechanical Desktop are not included in the COPRA software unless you order a COPRA stand alone option.
